I am delighted to introduce you to City Heights E-ACT Academy, a brand new academy in Lambeth. I hope that this website, our prospectus and our newsletters give you a flavour of the vision we have for creating an outstanding educational establishment for our local community. If you are interested in finding out more about City Heights Academy or are considering us for your son or daughter, do please make contact with us to arrange a visit.
City Heights Academy is a non-denominational, non-selective school, welcoming girls and boys from all backgrounds from the local community. We opened with just 110 Year 7 students in September 2013. Each year we will welcome another cohort of students and by 2019 we will have 1100 aged 11-18 year olds (including a sixth form of 200). The first few cohorts will have the unique experience of being the pioneer year groups of the academy. They and their families will be active contributors to our growth as an outstanding school. Our first cohorts of students will also help us to develop our archive so that future generations of City Heights staff and students can learn something of our foundation.
As you can see from our vision statements below, we have a vision to educate the whole child. We firmly believe that a positive attitude to learning, combined with developing self-belief in our students about their own potential is the key to success and happiness at school and in life beyond school. As Henry Ford said: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”. City Heights students will have the optimism to think they can and the grit and zest to make it happen.
We are delighted to have a specialism in Modern Foreign Languages with an emphasis on Spanish. Our curriculum, routines and building reflect this emphasis as does our vision to establish positive and fruitful relationships with our global community.
We are establishing excellent relationships with other local primary and secondary schools in Lambeth. We have a strong belief in the importance of effective transition in ensuring that each child moves securely from their primary school to their secondary school education.
We are very pleased also to have an educational partnership with Dulwich College. Over the coming years we will find many opportunities for staff and students at our two schools to come together for mutual benefit.
And finally, we are part of a national sponsor chain of academies called E-ACT. This means that we are part of a national family of schools in which, again, our students will be able to broaden their horizons by participating in joint projects with young people from Birmingham, Leeds, Cornwall and beyond.
The opportunity to create a new school from scratch is a golden opportunity. I am very excited about the project ahead. I am determined that City Heights Academy will be held in the highest regard by its staff, its students, our families and our communities as a place where young people develop their character and personality as learners and future leaders of society. It will be a place where our young people experience the highest quality of teaching, enjoy new, challenging and enriching experiences and are proud of all they do.
I very much look forward to meeting you and to working with you and your daughters and sons to create a truly great school.
We look forward to welcoming the OFSTED inspection team
